Wolfe St Dedication Ceremony
2 Peterborough Families Receive Keys to Habitat Homes
Our Wolfe Street Home Dedication Ceremony took place at 450 & 452 Wolfe Street in Peterborough on Thursday, September 13th. Supporters, donors and volunteers all gathered to celebrate the 33rd and 34th families that Habitat has helped into safe, decent and affordable housing.
Stepping through the door of her family’s new home, Melissa Lorenz exclaimed, “it’s our dream come true!” Owning a home has been a lifelong goal for both families. Despite working hard and earning a steady income, this goal felt far out or reach.
“The home we were renting was put up for sale, so we needed a new place to live. We put an ad online that our family needed to find a new place to call home and Habitat responded asking if we had ever thought about applying for homeownership…the rest is history,” explains Melissa.
This year, Habitat is celebrating 15 years since the organization built its first home locally (in 2003) on Lake Street in Peterborough! Through affordable homeownership, we low income families build brighter, more financially secure futures. Homeowner families build their homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. With Habitat’s help, families can achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to create better lives for themselves and their children.
Gord West from Alf Curtis Home Improvements, our local Home Building Partner, had the honour of presenting keys to families.
