Women across our region are coming together to build more than homes — they are building strength, stability, and new opportunities for local families.

For more than 20 years, Habitat for Humanity Peterborough & Kawartha Region has helped over 100 local families achieve the strength and independence that comes with affordable homeownership. Women have been at the heart of this journey, representing 50% of Habitat homeowners in our community — including many single mothers building brighter futures for their families.

Proudly presented by D.M. Wills

Women Build ’26 wouldn’t be possible without the support of our Presenting Sponsor, D.M. Wills.

D.M. Wills is the kind of company that doesn’t just talk about breaking barriers for women in industries where they’re underrepresented — they’re committed to doing something about it. That makes them such a natural partner for Women Build.

We’re incredibly grateful to have D.M. Wills in our corner, helping us create opportunities, challenge expectations, and show just how much women can do when we’re given the tools, the opportunity, and a seat at the table.

Did you know . . .

Women are disproportionately impacted by barriers to affordable housing? A 2019 study reported that more than one third of female-led households lived in dwellings below one or more housing standards, compared to one quarter of male-led households. The same study indicated that 17.4% of women-led households had what were identified as “core housing need” compared to 9.6% of male-led households, with that number rising to 28% among single mother-led families.

*From the Government of Canada & Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation's “SOCIO ECONOMIC ANALYSIS: Housing Needs and Conditions - Housing Conditions of Female-Led Households” Report, March 2019.

While women experience greater housing insecurity, they are incredibly underrepresented in home construction. Women Build is a way to close both these gaps. This gives women the opportunity to work on an actual build site and learn construction skills in a supportive environment with a crew of their peers. Build homes, break barriers.
