A BIG Habitat Thank-you To Our Generous Volunteers!
DYK: that despite the ongoing challenges of the pandemic and multiple lockdowns in 2021, the AMAZING team of Habitat for Humanity Peterborough & Kawartha Region volunteers has already completed over 1,050 volunteer hours so far this year? Plus, in 2020, over 199 volunteers combined for over 8,095 volunteer hours. WOW!
Think about that for a second – these generous people have combined for over 9,145 hours of unpaid time in 2020 and 2021 so far – during a global pandemic no less. Over 9,145 hours of kindness, helpfulness, and unselfish dedication to helping local families build strength, stability, and self-reliance through affordable homeownership.
Even if these incredible people were paid just minimum wage for their experience, talents, and skillsets, it would amount to over $130,000! Instead these remarkable individuals have chosen to donate their time as a rewarding way to join others in their communities in helping to transform lives locally.
Volunteering is an act of heroism on a grand scale. And it matters profoundly. It does more than help people beat the odds; it changes the odds.

Today marks the start of National Volunteer Week (April 18 to 24). A week where we get to highlight and showcase some of our amazing volunteers and share our gratitude for the unwavering support of all the volunteers who make our work possible. In the ReStores in Lindsay and Peterborough, on build sites, on the Board or a committee, or even virtually – THANK YOU to every volunteer who has dedicated their time and energy to support Habitat for Humanity Peterborough & Kawartha Region’s efforts to build strength, stability, and self-reliance through affordable homeownership.
You are the heart of Habitat Peterborough & Kawartha Region, and the driving force, both on the front lines and behind the scenes, of everything we do!
Volunteerism is the voice of the people put into action. These actions shape and mold the present into a future of which we can all be proud.

Why have so many community members chosen to spend their time volunteering for Habitat Peterborough & Kawartha Region? We asked them and here is what some of our many kind volunteers had to say:
Please join us in a BIG Habitat HOORAY for these incredible community members and all of our many volunteers, past and present! Their good works and kindness have truly helped to transform lives locally!
If our hopes of building a better and safer world are to become more than wishful thinking, we will need the engagement of volunteers more than ever.

We offer volunteer opportunities geared toward the interests and skills of each unique individual. Within the Habitat ReStores, volunteers help set up displays, process donated products, provide customer service, test products, make repairs, and more. There are many opportunities to make a difference and contribute your skills and time. Behind the scenes and virtually, volunteers help with administrative work, participate on various committees, and all of our Board members are volunteers. No matter where they volunteer their time with us, we could not be here without them!
Be sure to follow our social media channels on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn this week, to hear more about these wonderful volunteers as we continue to celebrate them and all of their efforts to help Habitat for Humanity Peterborough & Kawartha Region build strength, stability, and self-reliance through affordable homeownership.
Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they have the heart.
