Announcement from the CEO
Dear friends,
With mixed emotions, I announce that on October 1, 2021, I will be leaving my position as CEO of Habitat for Humanity Peterborough & Kawartha Region.
One of the greatest accomplishments in my life has been being the leader of this amazing organization for close to 15 years now. Together with hundreds of volunteers, donors, staff, and stakeholders, we have increased our region beyond just Peterborough, to include the City of Kawartha Lakes and the County of Haliburton. We have gone from one small 6,000 square foot ReStore to three ReStores with over 45,000 square feet combined. And most importantly we have faced the affordable housing crisis head-on by going from building just one single-detached home a year, to this year building an innovative new 41-unit multi-residential condo building, as well as 2 single-family homes.
There have been so many inspiring moments over my time with Habitat. My best memories were at home dedications. From a young boy who held my hand to bring me from room to room showing me everyone’s bedrooms, to three young girls dancing in the basement when all the adults were upstairs, to the tears of joy from moms and dads when they realized that this was their forever home! The power of Habitat is that we all get to be a part of making these dreams come true!
I am leaving a stellar team behind. Our Habitat staff, board, and volunteers are passionate, engaged, and talented. They have a new 3-year strategic plan that is ambitious and bold, and they know how to deliver on it!
Thank you for your key part in helping us build strength, stability, and self-reliance through affordable homeownership. I ask that you continue to help because, after the last 18 months, affordable housing is needed now more than ever. I too will continue to help in a supportive role behind the scenes, to help Habitat as it embarks on helping more local families attain housing that is safe, decent, and affordable.
I feel so fortunate to have been allowed to be the leader of this amazing organization and I will forever be its biggest cheerleader and supporter.
Best,
Sarah Budd, CEO
