Choose to Challenge Gender Biases
Today marks International Women’s Day – a day to raise awareness about women’s equality and to recognize the MANY achievements of girls and women. A global day celebrating the social, cultural, economic, and political achievements of women.
This year’s theme is #ChooseToChallenge. A challenged world is an alert world. Individually, we’re all responsible for our own thoughts and actions – all day, every day. We can all choose to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality. We can all choose to seek out and celebrate women’s achievements and build a diverse workforce. Collectively, we can all help create an inclusive world.
As home builders, Habitat for Humanity Peterborough & Kawartha Region operates in an industry that is typically thought to be a male-dominated field. We’re very proud that 70% of our staff are women – on our build sites, in the Habitat ReStores, in the office, and our CEO. And 70% of our Board members are also women. So who says construction is a male-dominated field?
Today and every day, we celebrate the power and resilience of women – our volunteers, our partners, our donors, our staff, and our homeowners. Thank you for all that you do to empower women and girls in our community to build brighter futures for themselves and their families.
There are truly no limits to what we can accomplish when we support and celebrate all women’s achievements – today, and every day.
