Meet Colleen | Board of Directors Volunteer

As Volunteer Appreciation Week wraps up, we’re closing out the week by celebrating a very special group of volunteers who work behind the scenes to help guide and strengthen our mission – our Board of Directors. 

These dedicated community leaders generously give their time, expertise, and heart to ensure Habitat for Humanity Peterborough & Kawartha Region continues to build safe, affordable homes for local families. They help shape our direction, provide governance and oversight, and serve as champions for affordable housing in their communities. We are so grateful for their leadership. 

Today, we’re spotlighting Colleen, one of our incredible board members from Haliburton. 

Meet Colleen 

After moving to Haliburton, Colleen quickly became aware of the affordable housing crisis affecting the community. So when she was invited by a local peer to join Habitat for Humanity PKR’s Board of Directors, she didn’t hesitate. “I was honoured to be able to serve my community in this way,” she shares. 

For Colleen, Habitat’s mission is simple – and deeply important:
“Everyone deserves a safe and affordable place to live.” 

With a background in real estate and wills & estates law, Colleen brings her legal knowledge and a deep understanding of housing issues to the Board. Her insights help inform decision-making and support the broader mission. But what she values most about her role is the people: “Connecting with like-minded community members who are also passionate about affordable housing.” 

When she’s not practicing law or volunteering with Habitat, you’ll find Colleen exploring the great outdoors with her family and taking in the natural beauty of Haliburton. 

Her advice for anyone thinking of getting involved with Habitat?
“Do it, do it, DO IT!!!”
