Groundbreaking – Habitat PKR Launches 3D-Printed Affordable Home in Fraserville

On Wednesday, May 7, 2025, Habitat for Humanity Peterborough & Kawartha Region (Habitat PKR) marked a milestone moment — the official groundbreaking of our first 3D-printed affordable home in Fraserville, Ontario.
Under sunny skies, a passionate crowd of community members, public officials, local leaders, and Habitat supporters gathered to celebrate this historic and hope-filled beginning. The excitement in the air was palpable as shovels hit the ground on what will soon become a safe, stable home for future homeowners Kayla, James, and their three children.
This innovative build — among one of the first Habitat for Humanity homes in Canada to be constructed using large-scale 3D concrete printing technology — is being made possible through the generosity and collaboration of many. A $100,000 legacy gift from the former Bailieboro-Springville United Church congregation, donated land from local residents Don and Pat Wood, and a groundbreaking partnership with local construction tech company Cormor Inc. have all come together to make this project a reality.
“This 3D printed home is a model of what’s possible when we think differently, work together, and lead with heart,” shared Hope Lee, Board Chair of Habitat PKR. “This project has faced its share of challenges — like many affordable housing builds — but we’ve never lost sight of the vision: that everyone deserves a safe, decent place to call home.”
Among the speakers at the celebration were:
Hope Lee, Board Chair, Habitat PKR
Warden Bonnie Clark, Peterborough County
Mayor Joe Taylor, Township of Otonabee-South Monaghan
Dwight Corcoran, CEO and Co-Founder of Cormor Inc.
Ron Black, Community Futures
Kayla, speaking on behalf of her family — the future homeowners
Holly O’Connor, Communications & Marketing Manager, Habitat PKR (Emcee)
Kayla’s heartfelt words moved many in the crowd:
“In today’s world, owning a home feels more and more out of reach for families like ours. But thanks to Habitat PKR – and the community of Fraserville – we’ve been given the opportunity to build a better future for ourselves and our children, in what will be our forever home.”
This four-bedroom home, expected to be completed by the end of 2025, represents more than bricks and mortar — or, in this case, concrete layers. It’s a symbol of what’s possible when community, innovation, and compassion come together.
You can help build this home — and more like it.
