Peterborough, ON – May 19, 2023 – Habitat for Humanity Peterborough & Kawartha Region (Habitat PKR) recently held its Annual General Meeting, where the organization presented its financial standing, and celebrated the achievements made over the last year. The event commenced with an inspiring speech delivered by Hope Lee, Board Chair of Habitat PKR, which set a strong tone for the meeting.
Lee’s speech highlighted the remarkable progress made by Habitat PKR in its mission to provide affordable homeownership across the region.
Our first multi-unit development stands tall and is a testament to our dedication and commitment to addressing the pressing housing needs in our community. But we understand that our work has just begun.

Lee further elaborates “Habitat PKR has been actively engaged in identifying and securing additional land throughout the region. By acquiring more land, the organization can effectively plan for the future and create more opportunities for families dreaming of owning a home.”
Recognizing the importance of a strong foundation, Habitat PKR has invested in its internal team and operations. “By empowering staff and volunteers and leveraging new tools and technology, the organization enhances its ability to navigate challenges and remain at the forefront of affordable housing initiatives,” says Lee.
Lee goes on to highlight Habitat PKR’s valuable partnerships with local groups and agencies, such as Peterborough Action for Tiny Homes, YES Shelter, New Canadians Centre, and One City Peterborough. Working with local trades and suppliers to provide gift-in-kind support for the construction of Habitat PKR’s home-building projects was also highlighted in Lee’s speech.
By embracing these collaborations, Habitat PKR aims to expand its reach and provide support across the entire housing continuum,” says Lee.
In the past year, Habitat PKR has received recognition as a local developer, which serves as a testament to the hard work and dedication of its team, volunteers, and supporters.
Together, we are making a real and lasting difference in the lives of individuals and families who deserve a safe, decent, and affordable place to call home,” says Lee.
Looking ahead, Lee expressed hope and determination as the organization continues its mission. She extended her gratitude for the unwavering support shown and commitment to Habitat for Humanity Peterborough & Kawartha Region’s mission.
Let us continue to rally behind our mission, united in our purpose, and inspired by the impact we can create through the power of affordable homeownership,” concludes Lee.
Habitat PKR has been serving the Peterborough & Kawartha Region since 2002, empowering local families and individuals through affordable homeownership.
