Habitat PKR Volunteers Cindy & Harry Receive King Charles III Coronation Medals

Two dedicated Habitat for Humanity Peterborough & Kawartha Region (Habitat PKR) volunteers, Cindy Windover and Harry Pearson, have been recognized with the prestigious King Charles III Coronation Medal for their outstanding service to their community. The award was presented at a special celebration brunch held at the Lakefield ReStore on March 6, where friends, fellow volunteers, and community members gathered to honour their contributions.
Cindy has been a dedicated board member, playing a key leadership role in shaping Habitat PKR’s vision, advocating for affordable homeownership, and supporting fundraising initiatives. Harry, a hands-on volunteer for over 20 years, has contributed to more than 40 Habitat home builds and plays a crucial role in the deconstruction program, salvaging materials from over 100 kitchens for Habitat ReStores to help fund affordable housing efforts. Both have been key members of the steering committee for Habitat projects in Lakefield, including the Fitzgerald Street development, demonstrating their commitment to building stronger communities through affordable homeownership.

“Cindy and Harry are not just incredible volunteers—they are good friends and valued members of the Habitat family,” said Susan Zambonin, CEO of Habitat PKR. “Their unwavering commitment, both through leadership and hands-on work, has strengthened our ability to provide safe, affordable homes to families in need. Habitat PKR would not be able to fulfill its mission without volunteers like Cindy and Harry.”
In addition to receiving their medals, Cindy and Harry were presented with certificates of recognition from MP Michelle Ferreri, MPP Dave Smith, Peterborough County Warden Bonnie Clark, and Selwyn Township Mayor Sherri Senis, further celebrating their dedication to the community.
“It is overwhelming and such an honour to win this medal today,” said Cindy. “I accept this award on behalf of everyone who is invested in affordable housing through Habitat for Humanity Peterborough & Kawartha Region. Affordable housing is at the core of a thriving community, and to be recognized for my contributions to that mission means so much.”
Harry reflected on his time as a volunteer. “I started volunteering at Habitat for Humanity 20 years ago, never dreaming it would continue for this long. I’m honestly surprised today to hear I have helped build 40 Habitat homes—I did what I could, and I’m so glad to have done just that. I have enjoyed every minute of it, and helping my community in such a valuable way has been an incredible experience.”
