Thank You Trent University CSL Students for Volunteering at the Peterborough North ReStore

Posted: 26-Oct-2023
It’s #ThankYouThursday and today we want to say a huge Habitat thank you to the community-minded students from Trent University who spent time volunteering at our Peterborough North ReStore this month through Community Service Learning (CSL) at the Trent Community Research Centre.
Through Community-Service Learning, students volunteer with local organizations for a period of 10-20 hours – including training.
Trent Student, Madison, shared her successful Community-Service Learning (CSL) journey at the Habitat ReStore on the Trent Community Research Centre’s Facebook Page.
“Madison’s volunteer experience offered insights into nonprofit operations, ReStores, and home building while fostering valuable connections with fellow student volunteers.
Her enthusiasm for Habitat For Humanity’s mission, especially the importance of ReStores as a revenue source, stemmed from their use of this money to pay employees and cover home-building costs.
During this experience, Madison sorted donated items, determined their suitability, and learned about pricing and item placement in the store.
Madison also acquired knowledge about the criteria for obtaining a home, which includes having a full-time job, avoiding bankruptcies, being a first-time homebuyer, and meeting specific minimum/maximum gross profit requirements.
Madison concluded her journey with strength and excitement to learn more. She found the experience invaluable and looks forward to volunteering with more non-profits!”
Thank you students for dedicating your time to supporting safe, decent and affordable homeownership in our community!

Thank you to Scotiabank Canada for supporting our youth volunteer program through the Every Youth Initiative.
