World Habitat Day
On World Habitat Day, Habitat for Humanity Peterborough & Kawartha Region joins the United Nations and organizations around the world in raising awareness, educating, and mobilizing individuals and communities to take action on the current global housing crisis.
Every year Habitat for Humanity Peterborough & Kawartha Region joins its partners around the world to rededicate ourselves to recognizing the basic right of everyone to adequate shelter.
Having an adequate home is now, more than ever, a matter of life and death. As COVID-19 continues to spread, people have been told to stay at home, but this simple measure is impossible for people who do not have access to adequate housing.
The ongoing pandemic has shone a spotlight on housing inequalities in our communities, showing how indigenous peoples, women, and minorities are disproportionally affected by housing insecurity, overcrowding, and high costs.
Decent, affordable housing removes barriers to opportunity, success, and health that might have been part of an individual’s life for years, and in many cases for generations.
On Monday, October 5, join us for World Habitat Day and year-round by lifting your voice to help people in need of decent and affordable housing.
Please donate by clicking here or email volunteer@habitatpkr.ca to lend your time. Because every one deserves a decent place to live.
