Your April Message from the CEO
Posted: 08-Apr-2025

Every year on April 22, Earth Day serves as a reminder of our responsibility to protect and preserve the environment. One of the key themes of Earth Day is sustainability – reducing waste, conserving resources, and promoting eco-friendly practices. This mission aligns closely with the work of our Habitat for Humanity ReStores, which operate under the guiding principles of “reduce, reuse, and recycle.” Habitat ReStores are nonprofit thrift stores that sell donated furniture, home improvement materials, appliances, and building supplies at discounted affordable prices. These stores play a crucial role in reducing landfill waste by giving new life to items that might otherwise be discarded. By shopping at or donating to a ReStore, individuals contribute to a circular economy that minimizes environmental impact while supporting Habitat PKR’s mission to build affordable housing for families. The connection between Earth Day and Habitat ReStores is clear: both encourage mindful consumption and sustainable living. Instead of throwing away perfectly usable furniture or home materials, ReStores provide an opportunity to extend the lifespan of these items, reducing demand for new resources and lowering carbon footprints.
This Earth Day, consider visiting one of our Habitat ReStore’s in Lindsay, Peterborough North or Lakefield to donate, shop, or volunteer. By doing so, you’re not just helping the planet – you’re also helping your community thrive. Thank you for doing your part! With much gratitude, Susan Zambonin, CEO |
