Habitat for Humanity Peterborough & Kawartha Region (Habitat PKR) is in a pivotal moment where we can change the landscape for affordable housing in our region. Through the recent success of our 41-unit development, more opportunities to build similar projects are becoming available, but we need help from the community. 

Habitat PKR seeks supporters willing to provide a hand-up through a high-impact investment to help us build more affordable homes across the Peterborough and Kawartha Region.

This high-impact investment program has the potential to make a significant difference in Habitat PKR’s ability to build much-needed affordable housing without taking on long-term debt.

HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS

→ Community supporters lend Habitat PKR a sizeable loan at an agreed interest rate and receive annual payments for the accrued interest. (*Lenders can receive their money back at any time.)

→ Habitat PKR uses the loan to fund the construction of affordable home-building projects without relying on high-interest loans from financial institutions.

→ After the loan period ends, Habitat PKR will repay the loan in full with the opportunity to provide the accrued interest in the form of a charitable tax receipt for additional benefit to the lender.

HOW IT HELPS

→ With high-impact loans, Habitat for Humanity PKR can use existing capital to purchase available land and construct more affordable homes across our region.

→ Cost savings with high-interest loans allow the increased ability to approve homeowner families on the lower end of the financial spectrum.

→ No down payment

→ Financial Partner first mortgage (low-interest)

→ Habitat for Humanity PKR second mortgage (no payment until sold or refinanced)

→ Equity stake payable on sales & refinancing
