On August 25, nearly 100 golfers joined Habitat for Humanity Peterborough & Kawartha Region and Kitchens Depot at Kawartha Golf Club for the first ever Play to Build Golf Tournament. With beautiful weather on our side, the day started with a delicious pulled pork lunch by our friends at Chemong Lodge and some friendly competition on the putting green hosted by the Peterborough Petes, before the teams embarked to their starting holes for a full day of golf and camaraderie.

Over the 18 holes, players got the chance to meet our extraordinary sponsors, sample some drinks from Sandbagger and Persian Empire Distillery, compete for Longest Drive and Closest-to-the-Pin, and of course, try their hand at winning $25,000 toward a new kitchen from Kitchens Depot in the hole-in-one contest. After, everyone convened at the clubhouse to enjoy some beautiful music by Lizeh, bid on raffle prizes, receive their awards and accolades for the round of golf we just played, and enjoy a dinner thanks to the generous sponsorship of One Fine Foods and Wade Hamblin Ptbo Realtor. Once dinner was finished, we heard from Habitat PKR CEO Susan Zambonin and Kitchen Depot’s Gary Williams about the reason for the day: creating affordable homeownership opportunities across the region.

We are moved and grateful to announce that the golf tournament raised $24,500 toward that mission. Those funds raised will help us build 149 more affordable homes in the next three years, starting with the three single-family homes currently under construction in Norwood, as well as Keystone Court, the five-storey 40 unit condo planned for Lansdowne Street West in Peterborough.
